Our Staff
Nearly 1,200 expert UF College of Medicine and community physicians along with more than 13,000 skilled Shands nursing and support staff provide comprehensive high-quality patient care, from primary care and family medicine to subspecialty tertiary and quaternary services for patients with highly complex medical conditions. The faculty from the UF College of Medicine includes nationally and internationally recognized physicians whose expertise is supported by intensive research activities. Shands’ affiliation with the UF Health Science Center allows patients to benefit from the latest medical knowledge and technology. Most services are supported by top notch administrative talent, of which the hospital could not function without.
Our Recognition
UF Health Shands Hospital holds the #1 position for liver transplants in the nation and consistently earns top-50 rankings in the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals report. In the 2024-2025 report, UF Health Shands Hospital was recognized in seven adult specialties: neurology and neurosurgery (33rd), otolaryngology (35th), urology (38th), obstetrics and gynecology (41st), geriatrics (43rd), orthopaedics (46th), and pulmonology and lung surgery (48th) — its 15th consecutive year ranked among the nation’s best. Three specialties were rated as “high-performing”, ranking among the top 10% nationally — cancer, cardiology, heart and vascular surgery, and gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery. UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital was recognized among the nation’s best in four children’s specialties in the 2023-2024 U.S. News Best Children’s Hospitals rankings: Diabetes and Endocrinology (#10), Pulmonology & Lung Surgery (#24), Cardiology & Heart Surgery (#26), and Neonatology (#35). Additionally, UF Health Shands maintains a 4-star Quality and Accountability rating from Vizient and an “A” rating for Hospital Safety from The Leapfrog Group.
